all over the world, including our little metropolis of halifax, every now and then you hear about these fun little costume parties called "fetish balls", where you come dressed up as your favourite fetish. they're world renowned as the masquerade ball to end all masquerade balls, where freaks, geeks, and kinks can come together in a celebration of the things that get them off!

i've always been intrigued by the idea of attending one such ball; not only would i find it a fascinating study into the hidden psyche of the human race...but also because i think it would be just plain HOT!!!

fetishes and kinks are a part of what makes up our sexual identity. some of us embrace them, acting on them and enjoying the thrill they can provide, others keep them 'tied up' deep inside our subconscious, never letting them out 'to play'...how we act on them is a personal choice, but i emplore the ones who can put them out there and enjoy them. now while there's a line that must be drawn between what's an acceptable display of such fetishes, and what's just down right inappropriate...i wont dictate what that line may be. what i'm interested in is the ways that people explore them in a safe and healthy manner...and one that's as kinky as possible!!

any reader of savage love knows just what kind of person is out there, and just what sort of kinks exist. basically, take the most sick and perverted sexual act you can think of, and you can almost guarantee that there's someone out there who's into it; let's explore some examples shall we: well there's the obvious fetishes that we all know about (the ones that are almost too mainstream now that don't really shock you anymore when you see it depicted as a topic of discussion on "the view") such as leather, bondage, domination, submission etc, etc, etc. but what about the darker ones; like the guy out there who gets off by looking at pregnant women? that's a little kinky, isn't it? what about the person who has a diaper fetish? what about DIRTY diaper fetishes? or golden showers? or people who enjoy being shit on!!!

i mean anything you can think of, no matter how demented it may seem to you...i guarantee you there's a website devoted to it!!

now fetishes are a form of fantasies, right? and fantasies are socially acceptable. so can fetishes ever be considered wrong? obviously the ones that go against society's laws should be considered a tad bit tabboo, and well obviously any involving children or animals should be unheard of...but if a fetish is more or less safe, and both parties (or all parties) are willing and eager, and no one is hurt (against their will) can we really descriminate against what gets someone off???

and even if our kink is a bit more vanilla than someone else's raunch...who are we do descriminate against them? as long as it fits into the aforementioned categories (ie safe, not involving puppies...) then why can't we just live and let kink?!?

that's why i love the ideas of a ball that celebrates the uniqueness of everyone's sexuality! if someone wants to come dressed in a kinky clown outfit, or someone else wants to come as a corpse...then so be it!

do you have a fetish? personally, i've always been into spandex...now don't judge, but there's always been something about it that has always made me so hot!! now i know it's a privelege and not a right...but in the bedroom, anything goes...am i right? and i know that the idea of restraints is a tad bit vanilla by today's standards...but the idea of being restrained and blind-folded while your partner(s) are free to perform any kink they want on you...my, my, my...
